Living THE Dream or Living MY Dream
“They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.” – Edgar Allan Poe
When most of us say, “Man, ____ is living the dream” or “In 30 years, I just want to be living the dream…” Majority of the time, that entails living in your dream home, driving your dream car, and retiring at the age of 50 due to your excessive personal success. In reality, is that really THE dream we should all be longing for?
In my opinion, having all the money in the world isn’t everything… Some of the most valuable memories I have and times where I grew the most as an individual were when I wasn’t financially “Living THE dream.” Some of the wealthiest people I know are actually some of the most unhappy people I know… I think there is value in having to work hard for something, and it forces us to be appreciative of what we have.
So, this begs the question – What is living THE dream?
I think the answer to this question doesn’t deserve an answer. The question SHOULD be – What does living MY dream look like? Everyone’s dream of what they want out of life should be unique to their ambitions and their pursuit of something greater than themselves.
The quote at the beginning of this blog implies that those who dream only at night follow the world’s idea of dreaming with our eyes closed (we are limited)… but when we dare to dream with our eyes open; the possibilities are endless.
Dreaming with our eyes open will allow us to alter our dreams to match OUR ambitions…not what society tells us to dream.
So… Let the dreaming begin!
